Ghost is a made-to-measure luminous panel with a dual character. Switched off, it reads as clear glass and lets light and views pass straight through; switched on, it emits uniform, diffused light from both faces and softens whatever lies behind into barely outlined shapes. Custom-manufactured in Italy by Backlight, it lets architects use a single element as both glazing and light source. Each panel is edge-lit within a slim 25 × 25 mm aluminium frame surrounding a transparent lighting area. Rectangular panels are built to the project from 304.8 × 304.8 mm up to 1219.2 × 3048 mm, and bespoke shapes are produced from CAD drawings. Output is specified per meter of perimeter, 14 W/m delivering 890 lm/m, with CRI above 95, and the surface can carry high-resolution UV-printed graphics. Ghost is designed to be set into a frame or structure by others on ceilings and walls. That makes it a natural fit for faux skylights in interior rooms, glazed partitions and dividing walls assembled from multiple panels in a metal frame, and decorative layers placed in front of artwork or finishes that remain visible when the light is off. Power can be fed from the panel edge or from the rear. Panels operate at 24V DC from remote Class 2 power supplies and dim via 0–10V, DALI, DMX, ELV/MLV and Lutron systems. Colour temperatures span 2000K to 5000K, with tunable white (1800K–3200K or 2400K–4100K), dim-to-warm and RGB versions. The standard panel is IP40 for dry locations, with IP54 available on request, and the datasheet shows cULus listing.
