ForShelves turns shelving and millwork into a source of light. Built on Backlight's edge-lit panel technologies, each illuminated shelf panel is made to measure for the project, so the light becomes part of the cabinetry itself rather than a fixture added to it. The result is a perfectly even luminous surface that presents objects, bottles and books without hotspots or visible LEDs. The system is offered in four configurations. Up Light and Down Light use Magic Cloud panels at 18.5 mm thick to light upward through a glass shelf or downward onto the shelf below. Dual Emission uses Magic Cloud Double Face, 27.5 mm thick, to light both directions from a single element. The Transparent version uses Ghost technology, 23 mm thick, which reads as clear glass when off and becomes a uniform luminous panel when switched on. Panels are integrated into a shelf structure supplied by others, with glass, silicone and finish materials also by the millworker, and a cable run to a remote 24V DC Class 2 driver. Housings are white aluminium RAL 9010 with custom RAL colours on request, and the anti-glare satin PMMA diffuser can be specified in gloss. Widths run from 203.2 mm up to 2006.6 mm depending on the version, with lengths to 3048 mm, and special shapes are possible. Light quality is suited to display work: CRI above 95 with R9 above 90 and 3-step MacAdam consistency. Colour temperatures run from 2000K to 5000K, with Tunable White in two ranges (1800–3200K and 2400–4100K), Dim-to-Warm, RGB and RGBW/RGBTW options. Standard and high-output versions deliver 980 or 1960 lm/m, with control by 0–10V, DALI, DMX, ELV/MLV or the Lutron ecosystem.
