Meet MAKHNO Studio – a studio of contemporary Ukrainian architecture, interior design, and ceramics that rethink Ukrainian traditions, cultural phenomena, and forces of nature.
MAKHNO Studio – a workshop on modern Ukrainian design and architecture working in a Ukrainian contemporary style.
MAKHNO aims to ART this world with our unique designs powered by nature, traditions and innovations.
Since 2003, we have been creating projects intertwining Ukrainian traditions, world trends and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the forces of nature, human talent and the architectural mind.
We are fascinated by the power of the home and the powers within it — in our culture, the home is of significant value. We have completed over 600 projects in 21 countries and are ready to create something significant for you. Home for knowledge, culture, and innovations, for families and single people — offices, coworking spaces, museums and galleries, apartments and country houses.
Serhii Makhno was one of the first to turn his work towards Ukrainian culture, at that time neglected and not interesting to anyone. It was a journey of 20 years starting with exploring, denying, and finally understanding and homecoming. Today, Ukrainian design is gaining popularity around the world.
Serhii Makhno considers his main goal to rebuild the Ukrainian identity, our cultural code, which was lost due to many historical events.
"I learned to love Ukraine in a new way thanks to my fascination with Japan. When I first visited it and saw how people of that country valued their heritage, I realized that Ukrainian culture is also extremely rich, but we do not always know how to appreciate it. Japan returned Ukraine to me. I opened my eyes and, most importantly, opened my heart to the wealth I have from birth, at home. That's why I create Ukrainian art through the prism of the Japanese perception of beauty," says Serhii Makhno.
MAKHNO Studio was founded in 2003 by architect, ceramist, and collector Serhii Makhno.
